A unique opportunity

The annual BELTA Day is a major conference in Belgium as it brings together English language teachers from all over Belgium, Europe and the world. We are proud to announce that our plenary speaker for BELTA Day 2024 will be Chia Suan Chong, whose plenary talk will be about helping our students become successful international communicators.
Apart from the plenary speaker, who is invited by BELTA, all other speakers are teachers and educators who take this unique opportunity to present new approaches, ideas and activities in an English as a Foreign Language context.

Do you have an activity, a tool or a technique that never fails to motivate and activate your students?
Have you mastered something that could be useful for other English language teachers?
Do you want to inspire others by sharing your ideas, your best practice?
Have you ever thought about presenting your ideas in front of an international audience?

Seize the opportunity so share your expertise. Don't hesitate and send in your proposal!

Guidelines and selection criteria

Proposals addressing a variety of aspects associated with EFL teaching – from all sectors and levels – are relevant to the conference. When writing your proposal please make sure that you specify why your session is practical, hands-on, and relevant to the EFL world.

On the proposal form you are asked to decribe the objective of your presentation. Provide a clear title and indicate the main points, principles and methodology of your presentation, at the same time outlining how you are going to structure and organise your session.
Also describe how your audience can apply what you say to their own context. This is especially important if you are planning to describe a course, project or product, or if your presentation relies heavily on a description of a local situation.

The selection committee is guided by feedback they got from previous delegates. Based on past evaluations, we know that new, insightful ideas and activities that can be applied to a variety of classroom situations are preferred over non-practical, highly theoretical sessions. Please take this into account when writing your proposal.

These proposals will be considered separately.

Toni Morrison said: “If there’s a book that you want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it.”
This also applies to presentations: if there’s a talk you want to hear, but it hasn’t been presented yet, then you must present it!

Practical information

  • All sessions are 45 minutes.

  • You can present alone or bring one or two colleagues to present in teams. In that case, each presenter of the team has to send in a separate proposal form, mentioning the name(s) of their co-presenter(s).

  • Click on the red button at the top right or at the bottom of this page to fill in the Proposal form.

  • The deadline for sending in your proposal is 1 February 2024

  • After 1 February all proposals are read blind by the selection committee, the members of the BELTA Board.

  • From 20 February 2024 you will be notified whether your proposal has been accepted.

  • Accepted speakers will have to register for BELTA Day and pay a reduced conference fee.

  • All information about the venue, technical equipment, hotel accommodation and pre- and post-conference dinners with the speakers and the board will be communicated later.
