How can educators at all types and levels of institutions incorporate culturally responsive pedagogy into their educational framework? Why is this important for educators and students alike?

Hava Rosenberg is the 2017-2018 Fulbright ETA Grantee at the University of Antwerp. She received her BA from the University of British Columbia in 2016. Before coming to Belgium, she served as a City Year/AmeriCorps member in an 8th grade English Language Arts classroom in Seattle and taught literature and writing at a summer school in Denver.

Why have you chosen this topic for your presentation?

As classrooms around the world are becoming more and more diverse, it is important for educators to be aware of the different needs their students may have and adapt their teaching styles accordingly.

What do you want participants to take away from your presentation?

Participants will gain knowledge of what culturally responsive teaching is and learn the basics of its implementation in the classroom.

Summary of presentation

This presentation will provide an introduction to the concept of culturally responsive teaching and address the following questions: What is culturally responsive teaching? How can educators at all types and levels of institutions incorporate culturally responsive pedagogy into their educational framework? Why is this important for educators and students alike? In addition to providing a general introduction, this presentation will explore some of the current scholarship on culturally responsive teaching and education in the contemporary urban classroom.
