2018 Joris De Roy Memorial Travel Grant Winner

This year’s winner of THE JORIS DE ROY MEMORIAL TRAVEL GRANT is Mark Van Dongen. Mark is the EFL Adviser for Mechelen-Brussels. He has been attending BELTA Day for a number of years now! Mark is a teacher of Dutch and English with a Master’s Degree from the University of Antwerp where he also completed his teacher training. He also participated in a Theatre Studies programme at Glasgow University via Erasmus.

Mark began his teaching career in 1994 at Koninklijk Lyceum 2 in Antwerp. He has also taught at Koninklijk Atheneum Brasschaat, Technisch Instituut Borgerhout and St.-Jan Berchmanscollege Puurs as a cover teacher. He has taught English-Dutch at OLVP Bornem, O.-L.-Vrouwecollege Antwerp and St.-Jan Berchmansinstituut Puurs, which he started in 1996. In 2006, he became SenCo and then Head of Pastoral Care in 2007, combining both with teaching until 2015 when he became the EFL Adviser for Mechelen-Brussels.

He first attended IATEFL in 2016 when it was in Birmingham; he has also attended the Glasgow Conference in 2017 and the Brighton Conference in 2018.
