This was BELTA Day 2025: A recap of the 12th edition

02/05/2025 - 08:37

What a day! The 12th edition of BELTA Day, held on Saturday 26 April 2025 at Erasmushogeschool Brussel, brought together nearly 100 enthusiastic delegates and 19 sponsors and partners from seven European countries. Once again, BELTA Day proved to be the place for English teachers in Belgium to connect, learn, and get inspired.

A buzz of learning and ideas

The energy was high from the start, with delegates eager to share experiences and discover new approaches. Our plenary speaker, Grzegorz Śpiewak, kicked things off with his captivating session, “How learning happens – and why you should care.” With nearly 30 years in ELT, Grzegorz offered a fascinating look into how our brains learn, why it matters for teaching, and practical strategies to boost retention and critical thinking in the classroom. His session sparked plenty of lively discussion and set the tone for a day of learning.

The programme was packed with 16 engaging sessions, each one carefully selected from a strong pool of proposals. Whether you were interested in classroom technology, creative writing, assessment, or intercultural communication, there was something to spark your curiosity and help you grow as a teacher.

Between sessions, the exhibition hall was buzzing. Delegates browsed the latest ELT books, discovered new teaching tools, and enjoyed sweet treats from our sponsors and partners. It was the perfect spot to catch up with colleagues, exchange ideas, and make new connections in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

Thank you for making it special

A special moment came with the announcement of the Joris De Roy Memorial Grant winners: Caroline Deltour and Etienne Vanassche. This grant, established in memory of a beloved colleague, gives two lucky teachers a year’s IATEFL membership, early-bird registration for the IATEFL conference in the UK, and free entry to next year’s BELTA Day. Congratulations to both winners; we can’t wait to hear about your adventures!

BELTA Day would not be possible without the dedication and passion of our speakers, the generosity of our sponsors and partners, and — most of all — the energy and engagement of our attendees. Your questions, ideas, and willingness to share make BELTA Day a true celebration of our profession. Make sure to browse our photo album (coming soon!) to spot yourself and your colleagues in action. We hope these memories inspire you until we meet again.

See you next year!

Thank you for making BELTA Day 2025 such a memorable event. We’re already looking forward to seeing you again next year for more inspiration, connection, and fun.
