Abstract

Rooted in the educational belief that “if learners don’t learn the way we teach, we should teach the way they learn,” this practical, hands-on session explores a play-based approach to teaching English to young learners, particularly effective in small, interactive groups. Through a short case study and interactive activities, participants will actively take part in these games, practicing techniques they can immediately use to energize their own classrooms. They will experience a selection of adaptable games designed to promote vocabulary, spelling, repetition, confidence, and authentic language use. The session highlights how creating a safe, imaginative classroom environment can transform engagement and make English a memorable and lovable subject. Teachers will leave with ready-to-use activities and strategies that can be easily adapted to different contexts, levels, and learning needs.

Biography

Vivian Constanta is an English Language Specialist with 23+ years in international education. She believes language is a gateway to identity, belonging, and confidence. She empowers multilingual learners, champions inclusive, play-based classrooms, and actively shares her expertise, including a practitioner showcase on picture books in ELL, published in TEYLT Worldwide, Issue 2, 2025. Vivian fosters students’ belonging and ensures they feel seen, understood, supported, and successful in her ELL classroom.
