Audience focus:
This hands-on workshop explores how Poe-based chatbots can be used as effective writing companions rather than shortcuts in EFL contexts.
Drawing on a classroom-tested framework, the workshop introduces an AI chatbot–based approach that supports students across multiple stages of the writing process, including brainstorming, drafting, revising, and editing, through structured, peer-like AI interactions. The session demonstrates how such chatbots can reduce student hesitation, enhance fluency, and create low-stakes opportunities for idea generation and discussion while maintaining academic integrity.
Participants will engage in a live demonstration, explore effective prompting strategies, and receive access to a customizable Poe-based chatbot template adaptable to diverse proficiency levels and instructional goals. The workshop also addresses potential pitfalls, such as over-reliance on AI-generated content, and offers strategies to foster critical thinking and responsible AI use. Attendees will leave with practical, research-informed approaches aligned with communicative language teaching to enhance student engagement in writing courses.
