This presentation first examines how traditional, rule-based grammar instruction may contribute to learner disengagement in contexts where the target language is affectively marked. It then introduces Post-it grammar, a usage-based instructional practice in which a minimal set of carefully selected examples is used as a functional substitute for explicit grammatical rules. By emphasizing meaning and conceptual contrasts rather than abstract rules, Post-it grammar functions as a low-threshold approach that is designed to support learner engagement through metacognitive reflection on grammatical choices.
